Every time I hear our National Anthem I get goose bumps, but on July 4th when I hear it, I cry. I hide it well but if anyone looks at me they’ll know. That’ll happen this July 4th too yet as I prepare to celebrate this Independence Day I am more exasperated than ever at the state of our politics. The current political climate is a perfect storm of lies and animosity, really just blind hatred, fueled by any disagreement, even the most trivial. In its wake is a Congress that is entirely dysfunctional. They are unable to find any consensus on anything to actually legislate. Will this storm pass? Is there a way out of it? “Daddy, why do we have guns?” A purely honest question from a beautifully innocent soul. I remember it. Wasn’t prepared for it but knew I couldn’t ignore it.

Over a million young people took part yesterday in the nationwide “March for Our Lives” protest. Innocense lost, shouting, demanding, “F**k guns! F**k the NRA! F**k Republicans!” I can’t ignore it.
