Partisan Pigeons

One of the few things that most of US can agree on is that Washington is broken. Within the beltway our federal government’s three branches operate independently, the power of each checked by the others. The executive and judicial branches function much as they are defined in The Constitution but the legislative branch has become paralyzed by partisanism and is now entirely dysfunctional. The irony of it all is that as simple as the solution is, it is practically unachievable. While an overwhelming majority of voters support congressional term limits, we continue to reelect our own incumbents. And it’d be laughable to even suggest that these representatives would vote themselves out of office with a constitutional amendment for congressional term limits. There is a third option. State legislatures can amend The Constitution with a ¾ majority vote, and it’s not unprecedented. Prohibition was such a disaster that the states themselves amended The Constitution to repeal it. So where there’s a will there’s a way and of course there was quite a will to reclaim the right to enjoy an adult beverage of choice. Do we have an equal will to reclaim our government?
