Colin Kaepernick, a few weeks ago you began to refuse to stand in reverence to our Flag as our National Anthem plays. As much as that hurts me, I support your right to do so. I took an oath once to protect that right, with my life if necessary, and that oath has no expiration date. But you are wrong Colin. You’ve been misguided and thus duped into perpetuating a lie that, like a malignant cancer, is destroying our society from within.
You said you won’t respect a flag that represents a country where black people are oppressed and targeted by racist murdering cops. I know that’s what the BLM movement would have you believe but it is patently untrue. Just take a few minutes to do a little research. You can access statistics from any of a number of agencies or organizations that maintain them and they all show the same thing; that our law enforcement officers are protecting you, not oppressing you. Sadly, there are a few exceptions, but very few.
Colin, as a well-known professional football player you have the power to influence many people and you have chosen this time to do so. I implore you, be a positive force, not a destructive one. If you want to protest the senseless deaths of young black men, AMEN! But focus on what’s killing them. I’ll give you a hint, it ain’t the cops.
You are a very blessed man Colin. Thank God as often as you can, not only in prayer but in actions. Be a positive force in this world. That is what we’re all here for after all. Next time you hear the National Anthem, standing or not, please listen to it, “The land of the free and the home of the brave.” I often think also that it’s the land of the free because of the brave. The brave are many, especially those in blue.
Every day, thank a cop today.
