Can a Runaway Train be Stopped?

I can’t remember a more interesting election season (although I think I probably say that about every 4 years). This time, it’s The Donald of course who has literally turned the GOP campaign into a circus. We could all benefit from a good circus now and then but I’m just too serious about politics to enjoy this one. For years Donald Trump has been teasing the electorate with the prospect of a presidential campaign so it was no surprise when he announced his candidacy. We were a bit surprised by his rapid ascension in the polls but the real shocker is his staying power. His missteps and antics would have long ago made any other a candidate a historical footnote but his support so far has remained steadily higher than anyone else’s.

So, what am I missing? Why didn’t I get on the Trump Train? Very simply, because I didn’t know where it was going. I’m cautious by nature so won’t charge ahead blindly into anything. Those who did jump on that train share my own frustration with the state of our politics and we are desperate for change. Donald Trump promised change and we believed it. I still believe it. Trouble is that change for the sake of change is no solution. Things may get worse! So I gotta know, where is that train going? No one knows. I don’t think Donald Trump knows. It’s a runaway train!

Donald Trump’s vast wealth exceeds most everyone else’s on the planet and I don’t fault him for that but by it he’s become a bombastic demagogue whose “people” tell him what he wants to hear and now we’ve all witnessed what he does to those who disagree with him.

I love Trump’s slogan “Make America great again!” and I believe he means it. However, international business and international politics are NOT the same thing. As President of the United States, Mr. Trump would learn that lesson the hard way and the consequences for our way of life, our country, even our planet, could be catastrophic. I hope I’m wrong but would you risk a coin toss to find out?
